What you see in the picture above is one fine bottle of bourbon.

Our friend Kevin, who along with his lovely wife Maite runs La Madame, presented it to us when we stopped in for a drink and snack the other night.

It's Van Winkle whiskey, which is apparently in high-demand among lovers of the drink in the United States.  Bottles are so scarce that restaurant owners groan when they see the maker walk in for a visit, because he only drinks his own bourbon. And he knows how to knock it back.

So how good was it? My resident husband expert said "Once you try it, it's hard to drink something else." And I personally thought it was the most delicious whiskey I've ever had.
